Kitchen Island Pendants

The kitchen island is often the busiest surface in the house, and the pendants above it set the tone for the whole room. This collection brings together the pendants we recommend for islands and benchtops, from glass domes and rattan shades to metal, marble-effect and linear LED designs.

How high to hang them

A common guide is to leave about 75–90cm between the benchtop and the bottom of each pendant. That keeps the light close to the work surface while leaving clear sightlines across the kitchen.

How many and how far apart

Two or three pendants usually look better than one over a standard island. Space them evenly along the bench and keep the outer pendants well in from the ends, so the light falls on the work surface rather than the floor. On a long island, a single linear pendant is another option.

Light colour

Neutral white (around 4000K) helps with food preparation, while warm white (around 3000K) feels more relaxed if the island doubles as a dining spot. Dimmable or tri-colour pendants give you both. All of these pendants are hardwired and must be installed by a licensed electrician.
